Overall, it was very enjoyable. Zelazny continued to write excellent short stories throughout his career. This new collection includes all five previously uncollected “Amber” stories, plus the prologue from the rare limited edition of “The Trumps of Doom,” and 16 other fantasy and science fiction stories including a collaboration with Harlan Ellison. This book let me see what else he is capable of, and I loved most of it.

He won the Nebula award three times out of 14 nominations and the Hugo award six times out of 14 nominations. It was interesting rofer realise that the same character pops up in “Kalifriki of the Thread” and “Come Back to the Killing Ground, Alice, My Love”; and rger six short glimpses of Amber give some hope that a third series of books set in that universe would have been better than the second.
The concluding Amber pieces were a brief but melancholy last look zelazby this universe sprung from Zelazny’s imagination. Roger Zelazny made his name with a group of novellas which demonstrated just how intense an emotional charge could be generated by the stock imagery of sf; the most famous of these is A Rose for Ecclesiastes in which a poet struggles to convince dying and sterile Martians that life is worth continuing.
This was hard to get, and quite expensive.
Highly recommended if you can find it. It was worth it, though– it contains short stories set in the Amber universe. Most of his novels deal, one way or another, with tricksters and zelazn, often with rogues who become gods, like Sam in Lord of Lightwho reinvents Buddhism as a vehicle for political subversion on a colony planet.
This is a collection of short stories from the master of sci-fi, notable for having all of the last stories from Amber.

Thanks for telling us about the problem. It was clear that Zelazny had more to say about Amber and its counterpart world, Chaos, and there are hints here at new intrigues, twists and turns that the author would never have the chance to explore.
And no, that’s msnna paradoxical, that’s just Zelazny.
