Although we didn’t see much of Jude in Noughts and Crosses, I feel like from the bits that we did see, it really did make it seem plausible that he would turn out this way. She sees herself as more of a Nought. This book shows us Jude’s character in more detail than Noughts and Crosses did, because we have a lot of chapters from his POV, and we see him falling in love – with a Cross. I reckon it’s for good reason though since the in justice system robbed him of his father and his brother and kind of in a roundabout way his sister.

But Blackman goes to some very dark places, especially in the shocking ending. I liked it but I preferred noughts and crosses because I felt more link to the characters and I had more emotions however I liked the book anyhow and can’t wait to read checkmate. It really gives you an insight into what life was like from the opposite ends of the social rankings. The story is completely unpredictable and highlights so much unjust that still exists in our own society and the forgotten aspects of racial inequality.

I was edgge hooked this weekend as you will see by how much of this series I managed to read. When readers left Sephy in Naughts and Crossesthe black, privileged teen was pregnant by her minority white boyfriend, Callum, who had just been hanged for being part of the Liberation Militia.
Jude, Callum’s older brother, watches Sephy enter her apartment building, and he plans to kill her. Sephy confirms the rumours, and they decide on names for the child: Sephy’s parents learn of her pregnancy and pressure her to have an abortion, but Sephy repeatedly refuses. Without malorei love of Sephy and Callum that leavened the first book and even that is tarnished herethis is almost unrelentingly downbeat.

To make matters worse, the baby’s father, Callum, is dead. I would recommend this series to everyone and it has made me want to read everything Malorie Blackman has written and will write in the future.
Sephy also has her hardships and when given a letter written by Callum before his death, it leaves her in doubt of what was real and what was not regarding their relationship.
