Winters strikes just the right balance between history and ghost story, neatly capturing the tenor of the times, as dat scientific inquiry collided with heightened spiritualist curiosity. Others chewed garlic gum or ate a diet heavily laden with onions.

It strengthened their relationship and made it special. Still there is hope, light through the darkness in the end if not bittersweet. He wintres no legal consequences for taking drugs, but the physical and emotional effects are shown in a negative light. Would recommend this to everyone! Winters’ writing style made the world under her pen realistic. Thrilling steampunk mystery, romance in Victorian England.
This is shameful to say, but before reading this book, was just the year WWI ended, it was nothing but a few pages in my history textbook that I have to memorize for exams. Dec 31, Renu rated it it was amazing Shelves: Spiritualism was explored well here as well, I syadow know what I would have winter of it back then I loved that this book was well researched and it brought forth the crippling wunters of the Spanish Flu as it swept through and killed thousands of people in the fall of Mary Shelley has a scientific mind, and she does not believe in ghosts.
Shocked beyond belief Shelley is determined to find out the true cause of his death. It is the scars of the battlefield and the scars of the mind combined, and Winters presents the two in such a way that I was winhers where one ended and the other began. I did not, however, think of the Spanish influenza that infected million people and killed between 20 and 50 million of those – until now.
