Print exists by virtue of the static separation of functions and fosters a mentality that gradually resists any but a separative and compartmentalizing or specialist outlook. So is it worth reading? Thanks for telling us about the problem. A challenging read, but worth it. And when I say extensive I mean both in number and in size.

Basically what McLuhan argues in his book is that the invention and diffusion of Gutenberg’s printing process marked the gugenberg from a balanced mclluhan of linguistic communication – where each sense was taken account of – to a tiranny of its visual component.
McLuhan identifies James Joyce ‘s Finnegans Wake as a key that unlocks something of the nature of the oral culture.
