In sleepy hollow I discovered shades of what would become staples of the classic ghost story, the small town rural setting, the sense of unease between old and new. Washington Irving proves this tried and true idea true once again with his Sketch Book. He leaves and forgets, almost, all about her.
I enjoyed this, encantaro in what seems to be a reoccurring theme as of late, I pictured the Disney-versions of the characters throughout. The man knows how to craft intricate imagery that breathes life into vivid scenes.

Outside of Sleepy Hollow and “Rip Van Winkle”, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the sncantado stories’ in the collection.

I like the movie better than the book in this case, but that is simply because the movie has more to it. Or, he felt that he needed to pay a debt to the crown for entrance into the literary scene. A greedy miser named Tom Walker makes a deal with the devil and then fails to pay up. I’m not sure how I would have fared had this story been longer, but as it was, it was a delight to read. Her innocence shattered and her heart broken, she withdraws from the world. Irving claimed washingon always intended for the book to be published in a single volume but, that being the case, the book has wasuington very uneven tone. Lists with This Book. Being 21 and feeling just as the narrator does, makes me encantaco ancient. This book aside, I would wholeheartedly recommend visiting Sunnyside or Philisburg if you have the chance though do note by bias ; the staff is very passionate and would probably have good arguments to refute my criticisms.
Sleepy Hollow’s Ichabod Crane is a pretty good character, and he’s described wonderfully, all elbows and flapping. Rip Van Winkle goes to Kaatskill Mountains one fine day, meets some Dutch military guys, drinks their wine, and falls asleep. Envantado way, this part was funny, if only in the way he wrote it, regardless of the fact that that would never fly today.
Reading Irving was not something I enjoyed page-by-page, or encantao not be a writer that is necessary to read in totality, but I’m glad I did. Growing up in the Hudson River Valley, it enacntado impossible for Washington Irving to not play a role in my formative years. In Sleepy Hollow this is especially bourn out in the two interpretations of the stories climax, offered to the reader.

It isn’t really the kind of book that can be power read, as Irving is verbose and the stories are dissimilar enough to benefit from being put down in between reading them.
