Meanwhile, Bernardo also lusts after Minervina, and his attempts to spy on and seduce her are very nicely presented. I was entirely livid with hate for the story and utterly compelled to murder the characters before they met their own fates. I wish I could love every book that passes through my hands but I have to come one I dislike now and then. Paperbackpages. And this is the worst for any novel not making your readers like, at least a little bit, the characters.

The history in this book is interesting, they way people lived, what they believed in, doctors methods of curing ills and deciding if a woman is able to conceive.

Fortunately, Cipriano’s wet-nurse, Minervina — a young teenager who had lost her own child — is a loving caregiver and protector, the mother-figure he needs. Ana rated it it was ok Mar 13, He as a character was not fascinating in the least bit, instead he was entirely depraved, horrid, and I was quite happy with his wretched fate.


At a certain point I did not really care if Cipriano was just a victim of a certain type of mentality. We acknowledge and remind and warn you that they may, in fact, be entirely unrepresentative of the actual reviews by any other measure. At times one suspects he married Teodorima simply in the hopes of literally being overwhelmed by her, but he’s a scrappy little guy and for a while the mismatched couple make it work.

I have to say I did find the topic quite boring at times too though and the translation wa I’ve been hovering between wl and three stars for this book, shame you can’t do halves!!

Overall, this novel was a trail to get heereje and I was entirely relieved to be done with it. Books by Miguel Delibes. Over a hundred pages long, this part of the book only covers Cipriano’s childhood and early teen herreje.
