Among the almost people officers and enlisted personnel was at least 1 woman. Hirshima was really looking forward to reading this book so to say I was disssapointed is an understatement. So when I found this book I had expectations. He was given no guarantees for his personal safety or that it would even happen, only that if it worked he would be a hero, and if not he was on his own.

This book reads very well. Dora Dougherty was a pilot from the B testing program recruited by Paul Tibbets as he had his pick of people to include in the project. There is a lot of information about the hioshima surrounding the creation of the bombs and the training of the pilots, xe thoughts and actions of the people involved, and a look at what was going on in Japan as well. There are a number of photos, but mostly just of the various individuals involved. It bounces back and forth so much that I got a little confused, having to go back and reread parts.
Nonetheless, an excellent book I highly recommend for those interested. It was written when Paul Tibbets and many of the other men were still alive and the authors got extensive interviews. We killed approx 80, in the first eye blink of the atomic bomb explosion in Hiroshima and many died after that. Tibbets secretly carried a tin of cyanide capsules on board the Enola Gay to offer the men if something went wrong with the mission and they wanted to avoid being tortured to death by the Japanese.

The book reads like a novel even if it is based on well documented facts. I kept going slower and slower as the time approached. The maps included, however, are very useful.
