I heard this several years ago for the first time and bought a music CD to have this piece of music. I want to play that piece. I’m thinking that means the actual music is by Glinka – but that Glinka wrote it to be performed by other instrumentation – and the piano “version” is by Balakirev. But when I balakirrv to my teacher I thought this piece was composed by Glinka, but she said, no, it’s by Balakirev. Can anyone here help balairev out with this?

Like John, I too have a copy of the transcription and agree that it’s difficult. I’ve never seen the original. Connect balajirev add to a playlist. And some of the flashy things that impress listeners and observers are really quite easy sometimes and sometimes quite difficult but your teacher might know the secret of its ease as far as this piece is concerned. I have thought of trying a program of bees, birds, and butterflies as there are quite a few of those around and it would be fascinating to hear the various ways the composers have conceived their renditions!

Help improve my ear and vocabulary! Ths think the original should be interesting to compare with the transcription to see what metamorphasis occurred in the conception.
