View all 29 comments. Diverse peoples held together by respect for each other and the prospect of swift punishment if they disobeyed their laws. I found Sharon Shinn ‘s Archangel an awesome fantasy and an amazing entertainment reading.
Through highly creative and unusual premises, provocative characters and actions that are always surprising the reader, Shinn was able to create a beautiful story. He guides my actions and he dwells in my heart.
Love-hate relationships for the win! However I did have a few gripes about it. Orphaned at seven when her farming village is destroyed, she was adopted by an Edori clan, a race of nomads who believe differently from everyone else, and so are not considered human. Rachel, despite her youth, is no awakening virgin but an experienced and world-weary woman.
I’m sad to say, but the heroine is an immature, biased, spiteful bitch. Gabriel readily accepts Rachel despite her hot temper and tries to make her feel at home in the angel stronghold, but Rachel distrusts angels for personal reasons, and hides dark secrets beneath her strong exterior. We are experiencing technical difficulties.

The story is told from alternating third-person points of view of these two so we get to see how things develop from both sides.

Monster Republic Ben Horton 9. Gabriel has an additional problem in that he procrastinated getting married. I’ve never encountered this sort of setting in a romance or fantasy novel before, so it was fairly striking, and from the style of the writing, Shinn really seems to know adchangel the bible reads.
Her touch is light and effortless, simply drawing you along in the wake of Rachel and Gabriel, watching and caring and intrigued. Gabriel, as the incoming Archangel, knows the inner-workings of his country and has grown up believing in Jovah. Surprisingly, for a book with obvious religious overtones, the novel didn’t put me off as many other “romances” oriented toward women based on the Bible do, such as The Archangrl Tentwhich I hated, by the way.
Without their own arcuangel, angels are almost glorious beings with massive wings, who sing beautifully the prayers of Jehovah. That said the religious references are overt, but Archangel is not religious fiction. I’ll look forward to doing that someday.
Instead she finds herself swapping one set of chains for another. I think this is the first one I wanted to start at the beginning, if I couldand very intriguing and adchangel it is. A pretty good story set in a uniquely crafted world based on biblical mythology.

I only wish Gabriel and Rachel had resolved their differences earlier; I do love to spend time with literary couples who respond in less antagonistic ways to each other.
