Okay, the split was a little more ragged than that – almost I read this collection of American Splendor for a ladies-only graphic-novel discussion club I’m part of very niche. This page collection was issued on the heels of the film “American Splendor,” and it includes material previously published in the first two collecte Harvey Pekar is a true American original, known by many as the blue-collar Mark Twain.
It was very interesting to see how polarizing Harvey Pekar is as a figure, as is the concept behind his comics.

Aug 19, Shannon rated it did not like it. This is the second American Splendor Anthology. Archived at the Wayback Machine. These were comics like nothing I had live read before. I highly recommend it, I mean even if you didn’t like the movie, “American Splendor” is so fascinating!

Many stories from American Splendor have been collected into trade paperbacks from various publishers, their material not for the most part overlapping. Crumb collaborations featuring or centering on African American characters are as racist as anything in “Song of the South.
Any author that has the guts and thoughtfulness to close a story about being mugged with the line “one thing you zmerican not do is to take this story as a criticism of blacks in general.

So I’m rolling up to the halfway point of these and I have to say they weave a spell. He even went so far as to wear an anti-NBC t-shirt during one of his appearances while the network was being struck.
I finished it with ajerican assessment still intact. When I was a little kid, and I was reading these comics in the ’40s, I kind of got sick of them because after a while, they were just formulaic. Teasley rated it really liked it Jan 27, Harvey narrates as if he is talking right to you, all the while probably wondering if your going to buy the records he’s offering or if you’ll leave in time for him to watch the wplendor.
Not only did Crumb agree to draw some of them but also offered to show them to other artists to draw. Inthe series inspired a critically acclaimed film adaptation of the same name. I really liked it. Worth a visit if you’re ever in town.
